The Whistler and the Shoes, Three Acts of Stupidity

This section was so interesting because Liesel and rudy steal a book on their own. Liesel decided to steal from the mayor. In this section she gets the title of "The Book Thief". Liesel and Rudy's relationship continues to develop. Rudy tries to steal from a store, and almost gets arrested, but he gets a teacher to lie and tell the store owner . He gets kicked out of the store. He also refuses to answer the date Hitler was born. Rudy throws a rock at Franz, and starts to not attend his youth meetings. Rudy, and Tommy join a new division, and he correctly answers hitler's birthday. The fight between Rudy and Franz resembles the fight between Max and hitler, because it is good against bad.

As we get farther into the book, more characters are starting to get darker, and do more violent and wrong things.

  1. I agree with you that more characters get darker but they also achieve more. For example, sure Liesel is getting darker but she learns to read better. What I found the most interesting in this chapter was probably knowing that Liesel tricked her own friend, Rudy, to go into the Mayor's house just for the book she wanted. But whats interesting about that is she finds an accomplishment after she steals something. I think that the reason why she does this is probably because she had never did anything worth while that she worked hard for. For example, sure she wants to read BUT she doesn't do it on her own, she does it with Papa. Overall I thought it was an interesting chapter.

  2. I definitely agree that characters are starting to change. I really like that you also pointed out that he throws a rock at Franz Deutscher. It is really funny that in his class, he had 'no clue' when the Füher's birthday was. Now, in a new division, it is like a piece of cake. Overall, really interesting ideas and I can't wait to hear more from your interesting blog posts.
